Matheson’s full service moving team offers some tips on how to unpack effectively after a move
So you finally got the last box off the moving truck, paid the full service moving team, and bought some pizza as a reward for a hard day’s work. But you are not done yet; now comes the unpacking part. For some unpacking is a burst of energy and for others, it is almost as bad as packing up in the first place. Either way, you want to make sure the unpacking process goes smoothly.
That is why our full service moving team from Matheson is here to give some tips on how to unpack as effectively as possible.
Make a System
Before diving in headfirst and opening random boxes, make sure you know what is going to go where. Ideally, your boxes should have been packed according to room or type of item, so it should not be too hard to figure out which boxes need to go where. Consult your inventory list—either the one provided by your moving company or one you made yourself—to track your stuff.
This one goes without saying. You need to get the most necessary things out of the boxes first. Necessities include things like toiletries, bed sheets, towels, shoes, and any food you transferred from your old pantry. Worry about the fun stuff like board games and books afterward.
Go Room By Room
Don’t try to unpack everything all at once. Take your time and methodically proceed from room to room. That way you stay on track and you get the excitement of seeing your new place come together bit by bit. Matheson’s full service moving team recommends unpacking the kitchen first, then moving on to the bedrooms, bathrooms, and then recreational areas.
Set a Deadline
If you want to get unpacking done, set an ostensive deadline to finish. For example, schedule a housewarming get-together in two weeks. That will give you the incentive to have everything unpacked and situated by a definite date.
